I had an experience recently and a few days later I heard something that tied up the loose ends that were left from my experience. It left me with a feeling of comfort, and sometimes that makes all the difference in the world. I’ll start with my experience. I am lucky enough to work from home so everyday I take a 20 minute walk around my neighborhood to get the blood flowing and the brain working. Not 5 minutes into my walk I saw a neighbor with a brand new camper in his driveway. The doors were open and they were getting ready to head out for a fun filled weekend. I was so jealous. That should be me and my family! I want a nice camper like that. We deserve to take that trip! I was feeling bummed out that I couldn’t have that $30,000 camper and the experiences to go along with it. A few minutes later I started wondering why I couldn’t be more content with what I currently have. I don’t seem to be programmed that way and it creates stress and anxiety. I think we live in a society that pushes us in that direction. Get that new job, the bigger house, fancier car. Does this bring us happiness? Maybe temporarily, but not long after the achievement our happiness fades and we are trying to figure out how to get the next best thing. I’m really going to try with all my might to move out of this mindset and live in a state of trust. The talk of having a state of trust is what I heard after my experience and it helped put me in a better place. A state of trust is opposite of a state of fear…. which I have been in! I ran into a YouTube video that featured Rave Mehta whom I had never heard of before but regularly followed the channel who was interviewing him. A few minutes into the interview he was explaining the difference between living in a state or fear or a state of trust and the lightbulb went off in my head. My negative reaction to seeing a neighbor with something I wanted was me being afraid that I could not achieve that. Fear will bring out negative emotions but trust will bring out the positive. It almost reminds me of the philosophy in the very popular book and movie, The Secret. In The Secret positive visualization and belief are touted as the key to fulfilling your potential. I don’t quite buy into it to the degree they mention in the book but I do think there is something to putting yourself in the right frame of mind. So I’m going to do my best to keep my mind in a positive and trusting place and I really do believe that will relieve me of some negative thoughts. Do you think this is something that would help you? What experiences have you had that would benefit from this mindset? Here is the video I saw:
